
Uncle D’s Smokehouse Catering, is owned and operated by Dennis Burgess and his family. Mr. Burgess has been perfecting the art of barbeque for the last 30 years, and is known as one of the pioneers in barbeque contests. He began competing in the early days of barbeque contests, and was at the first American Royal Barbeque contest as a spectator. That whet his appetite for competition, and he began to compete in local contests. During that time, he met and learned from some of the true masters of the pit. He honed his skills during that time, and later enrolled in the nationally known culinary program at Johnson County Community College . During his time at Johnson County Community College , he widely expanded his culinary skills, which led to a greater understanding of cooking and foods in general. Through his knowledge and continued experimentation, he has continued to reach new heights in the foods that we produce. Our sauce is an old favorite. Developed nearly 30 years ago, this sauce was only for family and friends and customers of our catering business. Unchanged in 30 years, the sauce continues to gain in popularity. Giving in to pressure, we agreed to commercially bottle the sauce for the general public. It has been very positively received, and is a throw back to days of old, before the advent of syrupy and generic sauces so widely sold today. Our sauce is a unique blend of the finest quality of ingredients that we can buy, resulting in a truly remarkable flavor and consistency. Our catering operation is geared to small to medium sized jobs. We don’t want to be the biggest, only the best. Our meats are prepared especially for your function, and are not part of the days “run”. They are cooked fresh and taken from the pit to your site. Like our sauce, our catering is based on using the finest of ingredients, never cutting corners, and putting the extra effort into making your function a success. |
